All students start learning Spanish in Year 8. We follow the ¡Listos! course which offers a lively, topic-based approach to learning the language, underpinned by a clear grammatical foundation. The aim of our teaching is to build students’ confidence in their ability to communicate in Spanish. Students have the option of continuing with Spanish in Year 9 and then of continuing onto GCSE in Years 10 and 11.
At GCSE, the aim of our teaching is to further students’ confidence in their ability to communicate in real life situations in Spanish, whilst ensuring that they have a sufficient grasp of the key grammar and vocabulary to secure them exam success at GCSE level. The result is a lively, yet focused teaching approach in lessons.
All our students benefit from having a regular lesson in the computer room, where we have a suite of 30 computers. We use a range of vibrant, up-to-date materials, including the Listos Eletrónico packages which directly support our textbooks and also we subscribe to a number of useful grammar and language websites.
Visits to Spain
Each year we run a home stay trip to Madrid for Year 11 and the Sixth Form at Easter. We are also planning a Year 8 cultural visit to Andalucía for 2007/8.
